Here is a video about how important it is to preserve the natural cork forests of Portugal and Spain, a unique habitat for wildlife. The easiest way to do this is to do what we are learning to do in so many areas of our life and choose natural over synthetic – so when you next buy a bottle of wine, look for a bottle with natural cork and do your bit for planet earth!
It is worth noting that the cork industry has done an enormous amount to eliminate TCAs from the production process, including much more controlled storage of the cork during processing and constant laboratory analysis of the cork throughout production, to make sure that there is no TCA present.
You can read about how the World Wildlife Fund is supporting cork oak forests as an important wildlife habitat for such species as the Iberian Lynx and the Iberian Imperial Eagle.
